Silent Screams: A Portrait Project

Created by photographer Sarah Deragon and creative collaborator JT Toland, Silent Screams began as a personal act of protest—a self-portrait Sarah took after Trump returned to power (ugh, again). Fueled by rage over anti-trans policies, the dismantling of DEI initiatives, and a relentless wave of executive awfulness, she captured a scream without sound—but filled with lots of feelings.

Now, Silent Screams invites you to step in front of the camera. What’s your silent scream about? Politics? Facism? Your ex? Another performative Pride campaign from a corporation that donated to anti-LGBTQ+ politicians? That one aunt who “loves you anyway”? Just sick and tired of being sick and tired? It all belongs here.

Join us at the Unapologetically Queer event on Saturday, June 21 at the Harvey Milk Center, where Sarah will be photographing your silent scream. Feel free to practice ahead of time.

Let’s scream together—quietly, but with feeling.
